Films:

In 2009, there was a film based on the 2012 theories, called '2012'. It has based itself upon the Mayan calendar theory as well as others. For instance, it mentions a volcano about to erupt, earth's crust heating up and slowly fading away as well as galactic alignment that scientists do believe will happen. This film is the only film that I am aware of which follows the same topic in which my group and I will be creating and producing.

As the date (December, 21, 2012) nears in the film natural disaster's such as earthquakes and destruction to cities starts. This is a close replica of what some people expect to see when the 2012 draws to a close.

This interpretation of the 2012 theories is an american interpretation where it seems only America know about this beforehand thereby allowing them to come up with contigency plans of evacuation. In this film the plans are generally to stay alive long enough to be transported by a big ship (similar to noah's ark) and off to safety. Although, ultimately this plan is an inefficient one as if it is indeed the end of the world, then there is no escape.

As an active audience member, I did not start to believe in the visual's that were seen within the film. I did not believe these theories before watching the film nor do I believe in them now. However, coming from a passive audience perspective I would have felt uneasy and question how we (as humanity) would survive the disaster's that could or will happen in only a matter of years.

As a hollywood film, this does not include a narrative as it is not needed. The visual's are the glue that holds this film together.

Based on the results I gathered from the questionnaire I researched into a film regarding global warming as it was a mentioned theory some of the participants of the questionnaire were aware of.

The Day After Tomorrow(2004), a film by the same director as the recently released 2012 film, is a film based upon the fact that global warming is starting to affect us, and it can hit us severely at any time. This film features natural disasters involving giant tidal waves, blocks of ice melting away, blocks of ice falling from the sky and more severe disasters which can jeopardise our very existence.

Global warming could take us to the next ice age, and it is up to us to act fast in order to survive it. In this film, it is said that the northern hemisphere will be completely affected and iced over in a new ice age, and that the southern hemisphere is the safest place to be. There is no escape from global warming, it will happen sooner or later and in the case of 2012 speculations, global warming has become one of the theories that people believe could happen.

Again, this film is pro-America and just shows that America is the country that become aware of global warming first and is able to react to it the quickest. It shows how other countries such as Canada, Japan, China, and so on can't cope with global warming and just end up covered in snow with millions of deaths to their populations.

This film, in my opinion is a bad interpretation of global warming because this film takes about three days from the start to the end of the global warming. Global warming is a long process and if it does happen there will be news and updates about therefore giving us the time to react, prepare and fight for survival.
