The Mystery of 2012: Prediction, Prophecies and Possibilities is a book published back in 2008. It explains some of the theories behind 2012, and each little section is individually written by someone who knows about the subject. Mayan Calendar: The first section in this book is where the theories around 2012 started, the end of the Mayan Calendar. When the big calendar ends (the long count calendar) the center of time and space would be revealed according to the Mayan's, writes John Major Elkins in this book. The Mayan's identified the center of the world which became an essential concern for them. It just so happens that a galactic alignment in which the sun will align itself with the center of the milky way is expected to occur in 2012. Ancient Maya believed that there are nine underworlds, each which refers to a different level of consciousness and a different segment of time. It is believed that we are currently on the eight one, 'This eight level may be referred to as the galactic frame of consciousness, as it will step-by-step lead humanity to identify primarily with the galaxy. The highest level of consciousness, the universal, will be attained through the workings of the ninth underworld in the year, 2011 and will result in a timeless cosmic consciousness, and citizenship in the universe on the part of humanity.' Carl John Calleman writes in this book that we must be prepared for the Golden Solar Age, which is not a new cycle but the end of cycles, hence the end of the world. Even though there are only about 10 million Mayan's still among us very few have had their thoughts on the 2012 conspiracy's publicly expressed. The theory about 2012 has over the years been misinterpreted as non-Mayan's pose as Mayan elder's and give their own view about 2012, which complicates things more, writes Robert K. Sitler. Hunbatz Men no longer believes that 2012 holds any real significance, which he previously thought. Men is the best known Maya teachers within the New Age. Maya 'Came from the stars, from Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus but then disappeared without any apparent reason hundred's of years ago' says Quetza Sha an associate of Hunbatz Men who contradicts Men and says that something will happen in 2012. It will bring positively transformed humanity he states. The short passage on Tortuguero's Monument 6 and the Chilam Balam books are the only Mayan texts that refer to 2012 as a significant period of time. Popol Vuh (the most sacred Mayan text) doesn't even mention 2012 as a significant year or date in the calendar. 'holy lord, where he says (that in) 2000 and few more years it will end on earth' this is a quote from a Mayan man in the 1930's in the a village, Chemax. Overall, there is no clear text or clue that identifies the end of the world is coming in 2012, as some Mayan's believe it will be a significant year and other's contradict this idea. |  |
 | With a lot of speculation, theories and conspiracies around 2012 comes many book along with it. John Major Jenkins has done research about the Mayan's and 2012. Galactic Alignment: John Major Jenkins investigated further than the Mayan's and found that there was a connection between 2012 and astronomy, a connection that was unrecognised before. In december 2012 the sun will align itself with the milky way galaxy. 'The galactic alignment is the alignment of the december solstice sun with the dark rift in the milky way'. The more astronomical term is galatic equator which is the exact midline of the milky way galaxy. The galactic alignment could be taken as an alignment to the galactic center. This is known as the precise point astronomers can identify with absolute certainty. The galactic center isn't expected to happen some hundred years after 2012 therefore making the galactic alignment theory a useless one. Franklin Lavoie an observer of the galactic alignment says, 'The Mayan's were galactic astronomers....their calendar is a masterpiece of even by modern standards....the ancient astronomers recognised a connection between the precession of the equinox and the galaxy....it's as if they intuited some sort of field existing along the plane of the milky way, upon which to steady the heavens as the Age precessed. The axis of precession lies at the ninety degrees to the galactic center...I believe this is a clue to the (orientation of) but undiscovered lines of force generated by the galactic dynamo'. |
Every religion has a saying on how the end will come. We are now in the New Age, and it is believed that the end is near....2012 is coming. The Bible: The Bibles features passages that could signify a new beginning as oppose to the end. For example, Luke 21:10-11, 'Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plague and famine; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.' Some believe that the Bible does reference 2012 as a particular year for something to happen. Apparently the Bible warned us of World War II, the Kennedy assassination (both of them), Hitler, the Holocaust and more, by the use of Bible codes and computers even after thousands of years of the Bible being written. This was said to be conducted by Bible code enthusiast's. Michael Drosnin took into this idea of the Bible codes giving out clues to our future. "The Bible code warns us that a collision with the earth may be in real danger" he says. The only way to find out about the Bible codes is by the use of a computer which is still a recent discovery. As well as this limitation there is another that the things that are found (Hitler, Assassinations, etc.) are only found after we know about it. We are unable to find about the future, but we find out about the past. Dronsin, using the Bible code predicted a world war, nuclear war and armageddon in 2000 or 2006, which did not happen. So using the Bible to predict the future can be inaccurate. Overall some believe that the Bible could be used to predict our future in 2012 while others think it's a false interpretation as it seems there is more about the past then there is about the future. |  |
